Prison Saves
Make sure you have some Kleenex. I could listen to stories of change all day long. Often people come to the Church looking for immediate solutions in order to avoid their circumstances. Sometimes God may grant those petitions, but often the change that needs to happen requires time. Today be thankful for those who preach and teach about the power of Christ to the captive audience of the American prisoner, and pray for the transformed as they re-enter life outside of those institutions.
History of Rap Part 2
I’m a white guy from Kentucky who can’t remember the names of his kids much less the lyrics to rap songs. In fact, memorization has never been my deal and thus I was a terrible biology student, but I digress. I am a rap/hip-hop fan, but not nearly as fanatic as these two guys. Last week I showed you The History of Rap Part 1. This week I give you Part Two. Let me just say I think Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon are phenomenal talents. It would have been great to be in the room when they did this, and I post this follow up to last week only for your enjoyment. NBC copyright killed my last link, but here is a new one.

Talent is something…but it’s not everything
I had a friend growing up who could do impressions, was extremely quick witted, and could probably have done something like this if he could sing. I never heard him sing. There is an X factor that takes talent and develops it into a success in our culture. These two guys definitely found the X factor. Some of it is luck, but a lot of it is hard work. And the key is that they LOVE the work.
I think that is the X factor.
You can LOVE doing something and not be very talented at it. YouTube is full of examples of that.
However, you can also be extremely talented at something and hate doing it. In both cases you fail to be successful in the craft.
So, what is holding you back? Talent or attitude? If it’s talent, then find something at which you are better. If it’s attitude, then maybe you should re-evaluate your motivation for the work and for your life.
