Tis the Season to Beware
I think I had something to write about last night, but when I went to retrieve my laptop from my truck I discovered that my bag was a little too light. I unzipped the case to find nothing…my laptop was stolen. The thief or thieves were smart enough to remove the laptop and power supply from my bag and zip it back up so I would suspect nothing. This is the second time in two years an electronic has been removed from my vehicle. The first time it happened while my car was in my garage. The laptop itself is nowhere near as valuable as the information on the computer. Sadly, it has been a while since my last backup and I fear I’ll never see the data again. So, after a long day at the office yesterday with lots to reflect upon I was left anxious over the loss and now all I can think about is the laptop. I feel like the woman looking for that lost coin in Luke 15. Up until it is found she is obsessed with it. What a picture of our Father…obsessed with finding his lost kids who were stolen away by sin.
During this time of year when the poor bear an enormous burden due to the pressures of our consumer oriented culture don’t leave out temptations. Put your GPS units, MP3 players, and laptops in your trunk or under the seat so that you don’t set a trap. All it takes is to leave your vehicle unlocked a single time and we’ve almost asked someone to take our stuff in order to provide stuff for someone else.
I think someone needs to design a self destruct on laptops that scrambles or erases the data that is enacted when the computer is used to gain access to the internet. Right now I’d pay a lot of money for that service. In the mean time I’m just going to try to pray that my laptop is found, but along with my request for it I’m going to add a few lost kids to the list.

We hope to hear more news this week on adoption. Thanks for rambling.
and sorry for the really long comment
That’s really a shame, and a horrible feeling. Maybe yours will be the rare case that it turns up. We fight a false perception of high crime in downtown Louisville, so we pay pretty close attention to stuff like that. Typically, one arrest clears dozens of car break ins. It’s always one or two guys on a spree. Stuff like that is sad.
On the other hand, I was once at a parking meter digging through my car for some change and was approached by a panhandler. He asked for some change, and after I told him I was digging through my seats for some change myself he pulled out a bag full of coins and offered me some for the meter. That’s rambling, random and pretty unrelated, but crossed my mind for some reason. Looking back, I probably should have taken him up on his offer.
Anyway, hope you’re well and the adoption stuff is going good. Also, bring back Tuesdays are for talent.
